  1. Hi Adam!
This is Ann Epperson @ Moore. Your mother shared your blog with me. My son who will be in 8th grade next year, 2010-2011, has an opportunity to go to Costa Rica with middle school next summer. What are your thoughts, pros/cons?

By the way, your prose is so eloquent, and your phrasing so vivid. I thoroughly enjoy reading the blog and your poetry. Your detail is such that the reader is right there with you. What a interesting trip you're having!

  2. I appreciated your comments on the fortune teller and the degree to which we may give propheteering too much credence. In one of our common pursuits, it's said that the more one practices, the luckier one is. So the future is very much up to us and our attitude toward the future is very much captured in our attitude/actions in the present. To the extent that our real (present-day) lives are circumscribed by barriers, such as lack of opportunity due to circumstances we did not create, we might succumb to the idea that success is totally dependent on luck. Hearing about the earthquake in Peru in the south makes me think about the location of your travels, hope all is well with you and Allison.

  3. Wow, thanks for the reply, anonymous...We´ve felt no earthquakes, but will look out for them. You have articulately captured how I feel about luck. I am reminded by a friend of mine who was a world-class runner. Before races if people wished him good luck, he´d confidently assure them that luck had nothing to do with it.

  4. Hi Ann-

Thanks for the comments on the blog. I appreciate the support. I highly recommend doing Costa Rica - not sure how it will go for such a young kid, but why not, it should broaden their horizons...Pros and cons will have to wait. I think about things like that a lot, and it would be an essay.

    Cheers,
    Adam
